Main Theme:

‘’Addressing health priorities and advancing the East African Region Health agenda to meet global health targets’’

Sub-theme 1: Innovative strategies to fight epidemics and pandemics (Research on tests, medicines and vaccines; Manufacturing of tests, medicines and vaccines; Capacity development; Use of digital solutions; Regional / cross-border surveillance and coordination)

Sub-theme 2: Strengthen one health approach to address communicable and non-communicable diseases (Improve management of communicable diseases (Testing and treatment of Viral, Bacterial, Fungal and Parasitic infections; Antimicrobial resistance. The above diseases include, but are not limited to HIV, TB, Malaria and other zoonotic diseases, Tropical Neglected Diseases, hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases; Improve management of non-communicable diseases (cardiovascular diseases, cancers, mental disorders, injuries, tobacco and substance abuse; and nutrition security; Public, environmental and occupational health (pollution, water sanitation and health, work environment including staff motivation, satisfaction and mental well-being; Climate change and natural disasters (whether with extreme temperatures, floods, earthquakes, dryness…; Snake bites).

Sub-theme 3: Harnessing digital solutions to strengthen health systems (Legal, regulatory frameworks and coordination; Digital Infrastructure, equipment and software; resource capacity development; Public Private Partnership and collaboration).

Sub-theme 4: Improve health financing and social protection, access to quality healthcare and services to accelerate the achievement of universal health coverage (Legal and regulatory frameworks and coordination; Health financing and social protection (increase the budget allocated to health sector, improve the coverage by health insurances including the Community Based Health Insurance; Access to quality healthcare and services (geographical, financial and cultural accessibility; infrastructure, supply chain, safety and security of tests, medicines, and vaccines, human resource capacity development, community-based health interventions; Private Partnership and collaboration).

Sub-theme 5: Reproductive Maternal, Neonatal, Child, and Adolescent Health (Sexual and reproductive health; Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission; Maternal and Neonatal Health; Child and Adolescent Health; Food security and nutrition).

Sub-theme 6: Herbal and Traditional Medicine (Integration of traditional medicine into healthcare systems; Evidence on the use of herbal and traditional medicine; Safety and efficacy of herbal and traditional medicine; Success stories of traditional medicine; Intellectual property among traditional medicine knowledge holders and practitioners).

Symposia:

  1. Progress and way forward to achieving the 3rd Sustainable Development Goal in the East African Region;

  2. Sustainable universal health coverage in the East African Region;

  3. Lessons learnt from the recent emerging epidemics in the East African Region (M-pox, Murburg, Ebola…);

  4. Integration of herbal and traditional medicine into healthcare systems in the East African Region.
